Pilates is a form of exercise that combines the co-ordination of deep postural and stabilising muscles, breathing and arm & leg movements with postural correction, suppleness and flexibility. With regular practice, Pilates positively changes the body. The method has seen a resurgence in popularity over recent years and continues to expand.

Pilates is suitable for all ages and levels of ability. Scientific research is beginning to provide evidence of its effectiveness on reducing pain, improving physical function, movement and well being.

Ellie graduated with a First Class Master’s degree in Osteopathy from the European School of Osteopathy in Kent. Alongside her osteopathic training, she is a qualified APPI Pilates instructor and integrates these skills into tailored rehabilitation plans to support her patients’ recovery and long-term wellbeing.

She developed a deep fascination with movement and performance during her contemporary dance degree at Trinity Laban. This inspired her interest in the mechanics of the human body and a drive to understand how we function. This passion continues to shape her approach to osteopathy and Pilates, combining clinical expertise with a practical understanding of how the body functions.

The APPI Method is much more than just a way of toning a person’s physique, but is a research based, clinical application of improving the way a person moves and functions in their everyday life.

Fiona graduated with a BSc in Physiotherapy from Glasgow Caledonian University in 1993. She moved to Surrey in 1994, and has worked in the NHS and the private sector, specialising in Musculoskeletal Injuries and Sports Injuries.

She is a fully certified matwork instructor with APPI, a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) and is registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Originally developed in Australia and now practised the world over, the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI) method encompasses three core areas: pain, pathology (injury) and function. Each Pilates movement has been analysed based on these three core areas in order to determine how it can best improve functioning of the body as a whole.

This means that the APPI Method is much more than just a way of toning a person’s physique, but is a research based, clinical application of improving the way a person moves and functions in their everyday life.

Tuesdays: 10:45am - 11:45am & 12pm - 1pm
