Book an AppointmentTouch that understands
Cancer treatment is physically and emotionally demanding. The side effects of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery can leave the body feeling sore, exhausted and unfamiliar. Oncology massage offers something profoundly valuable at this time: safe, skilled, compassionate touch.
Oncology massage is not a general massage adapted for cancer patients. It is a specialist discipline requiring specific training. At Oak Park Clinic, both Kate Bennett and Bernie Hughes are fully qualified in oncology massage and understand how to adapt every element of a session to the individual, their treatment and their needs on the day.
We see patients from Farnham, Fleet, Hook, Aldershot and Farnborough at all stages of their cancer journey, during active treatment, in recovery and in the longer-term aftermath of a diagnosis.
How oncology massage can help
Every person's experience of cancer is different. Here are some of the ways oncology massage can support you through yours.
Reducing Anxiety & Stress
A cancer diagnosis and its treatment can bring significant anxiety. Gentle massage has a calming effect on the nervous system and can provide meaningful relief from the emotional weight of treatment.
Managing Treatment Side Effects
Fatigue, nausea, pain and muscle tension are common side effects of cancer treatment. Adapted massage techniques can help reduce these symptoms and improve quality of life.
Improving Sleep
Poor sleep is extremely common during and after cancer treatment. Oncology massage can promote deeper, more restorative sleep by calming the nervous system and easing physical discomfort.
Lymphoedema Awareness
Our therapists are trained to work safely around lymphoedema and lymph node removal sites, adapting pressure and technique to avoid contraindicated areas.
Reconnecting with Your Body
Cancer treatment can make the body feel foreign or difficult to inhabit. Compassionate touch can help restore a sense of comfort and ownership in your own skin.
Support Beyond Treatment
The effects of cancer and its treatment can persist long after active treatment ends. Oncology massage supports recovery and longer-term wellbeing for those living beyond cancer.
Scar Tissue Therapy after Cancer Surgery
Many cancer treatments involve surgery that leaves scars, including mastectomy, lumpectomy and port placement. Our Our therapist Kate Bennett specialises in scar tissue therapy and can work with post-surgical scars once they have fully healed. Scar therapy can address tightness, sensitivity, numbness and the functional restrictions that often develop as scars mature. Find out more about scar tissue therapy.
