Your questions relating to Acupuncture, answered by Oak Park Clinic’s team of specialist practitioners.
What is Acupuncture?
Quoting the NHS website, “Acupuncture is a treatment derived from ancient Chinese medicine. Fine needles are inserted at certain sites in the body for therapeutic or preventative purposes.”
We asked our patients for their questions relating to Acupuncture, so that we can put your minds at ease and re-assure you that Acupuncture, a treatment used for hundreds and hundreds of years, can help ease your pain.
What Can Acupuncture Treat?
Acupuncture has numerous benefits; from reducing stress and headaches, to relieving joint pain, eye strain, improving your immune system in general and offering relief from allergies. Our team can advise whether Acupuncture is right for you.
Does Acupuncture Hurt?
Small needles are inserted in to various pressure points in your body, including your face,, ears, back and body, depending on where we’re trying to target your pain or tension relief. The thickness of your skin varies across the different parts of your body, so, you’ll more than likely feel pressure as the needles are inserted and settle in to place. Your hands and feet may feel more sensitive compared to having needles inserted somewhere like your back, but the benefits you should feel post-treatment should out-weigh any discomfort you feel at the start.
How Long Will My Acupuncture Treatment Last?
Our practitioners allow plenty of time to prep and make you feel completely relaxed ahead of any appointment and everyone will experience a different treatment, depending on the area we’re specifically trying to target. Needles can remain in place anywhere from just a couple of minutes and up to 30 minutes – and may be inserted close to the skin’s surface, or several inches deep.
How many Acupuncture Treatments will I Require?
Again, as every patient is different, we can’t provide an exact response, but patients should start to feel the effect from Acupuncture after two to three treatments.
